Crossroads

Yesterday was a good day.

Neon Chain v1.6.1 is finally out the door. Barely had time to enjoy it before the notebook was open again and v2.0 started taking shape. Some fixes, some new gameplay ideas, and at least one feature that makes me wonder why I didn't build it that way the first time.

That's the curse of shipping software. You don't really see version 1.0 until version 2.0 is already living rent-free in your head.

Started the new job yesterday too. Turns out hiring me to sell things was a pretty solid decision. Knocked sales out of the park on day one, ending the day with $1,337.00 in sales by myself. Nice reminder that after all these years I can still flip that switch when I need to.

Now I'm staring at too many roads and not enough hours.

Do I double down on Neon Chain while people are actually playing it? Do I finally start my 1.44MB Challenge entry? Or do I crack open one of the dozen Lonely Ranch Games ideas that have been sitting in the pipeline waiting for their turn?

Good problem to have, I guess.

Yesterday was also KhaoticRage's and MagicWookiee's birthday. Another year where the people who built this thing together are scattered across different states instead of sitting around the same table talking shit and celebrating. Hopefully that's temporary. If Neon Chain keeps growing, maybe Lonely Ranch Games eventually gives us the financial means to all end up in the same room.

Until then, I'm writing code, chasing ideas, kicking ass at a job I already know how to do, and somehow surviving because VantaQueen keeps me fed and the fridge keeps mysteriously refilling with Jolt Cola.

Now I just need to decide which road to start walking tomorrow.
